Anna Rizatdinova (UKR) – Aeon Cup 2014

This season, 2014, was one of the most succesful in Anna Rizatdinova’s career: Bronze medal at European and World Championships in All-Around.

– “This year was not easy for us – the Ukrainian team. Since the beggining of the year, we had to move to other training room because of the political situation. Our hall is located in the center of Kiev so that it was dangerous to train over there. Now that the situation in Kiev is much better, we are back. But we still have problems with the boiling system: the hall is very cold”

– “My coach Ireesha, is very important for me. She knows how to handle me and makes me trust in myself. She was with me at European Championships, but not for World Championships. Ireesha became a mother some months ago so that she could not be with me. Instead of her, her grandma, Albina was my coach. Although she was not at World Championships, we were talking on phone everyday.”

“I find competitions easier than training. Even if the competition is not going very well for me, nature helps me do my best. When I am not leading the competition for the first moment it is even easier for me, because it makes me work harder”

“I find competitions easier than training”

“She is very kind and stubborn at the same time which I think is great for sports. She has also a competitive nature. I could say she is an angel with iron wings”

Ukrainian former rhythmic gymnastics double Olympic participant, Alina Maksymenko is one of the most admired gymnasts nowadays. Why? Her artistry, charisma and strenght made Alina one of the most popular gymnasts in the last years. She feels the emotions from the first second to the last one of her exercise.

“I think that sometimes I made silly mistakes because of my feelings, for example, throwing the apparatus as high as possible”

Alina became an Olympian in 2008 performing with the group. After Olympics, Anna Bessonova retired and Alina got a difficult challenge: being the leader of Ukrainian National team. At London Olympic Games, Maksymenko ranked 6th. Last performance for Alina

Right now Alina is helping Irina Deriugina as a coach.

– “At the beginning of the yearI had to face a very difficult task as a coach: Junior gymnasts (Valeriya Khanina or Margarita Vasylieva) needed to get into the top eight to participate in Youth Olympic Games. This was my debut as a coach. For me this was a new experience not even easier than compete”

“My debut as a coach was not easier than competing”

– “The most difficult is that, when you are on the carpet and make a mistake, you can correct the performance, you’re in control of the situation. Now, as a coach, I can only squeeze my hand with the hope that the gymnast will find a way out to continue the exercise. Unfortunately, at this moment I can not help standing behind the carpet”

– “When you’re a gymnast, everytime you go onto the carpet you get confidence. As a coach, the feeling standing outside the carpet is very different”
