Dance Steps in Rhythmic Gymnastics 2022-2024 Code of Points

The combination of dance steps consist on a sequence of movements with the body and apparatus dedicated to expressing the stylistic interpretation of the music. They have to be defined and according to the rhythm of the music.

The movements should include all the body segments (head, arms, shoulders, hips, feet, legs…).

Routines must have at least two dance step combinations. These movements should last eight seconds. During this time, the gymnast can’t do large throws or pre-acrobatic elements.
The style of these movements should be in line if the character of the routine and music (classical, folkloric, modern…).
• Any classical dance steps
• Any ballroom dance steps
• Any folkloric dance steps
• Any modern dance steps
• Etc.

Dance Steps Combination should include a variety of movements specifically used for the choreographic purposes of character and effect. BD such as “cabriole” jump, “passé” balance, etc. which have their base in traditional dance and a value of 0.10 may be included.
4.3.4. Movements in harmony with the rhythm
4.3.5. 2 modalities of travelling: the modalities of travelling (the mode in which she travels/moves around the floor area) should be varied and diverse, in harmony with specific style of the music and the character of the movements, and not generic movements across the floor (like walking, stepping, running) with apparatus handling.

4.4. The Dance Steps Combination will not be valid in the following cases:
4.4.1. Less than 8 seconds of Dance performed according to #4.3.1.- #4.3.4
4.4.2. Static apparatus
4.4.3. High throw during S
4.4.4. Pre-Acrobatic elements during S
4.4.5. R during S
4.4.6. Loss of apparatus during 8 consecutive seconds
4.4.7. Loss of balance with support on one or both hands or on the apparatus
4.4.8. Total loss of balance with a fall of the gymnast during 8 seconds
4.4.9. The entire Combination performed on the floor.

Code of Points: Dance Steps

NATALIA GARCIA SPAIN

Natalia Garcia (ESP)

The dance steps are continuous, connected dance steps, which could be classical, ballroom, folkloric or modern steps. A minimum of one Dance Step Combination (named S) must be presented in an exercise. All steps must be clear and visible for the full 10 seconds duration, starting with the first dance movement.
The last steps in combination cannot be simple walking and look like preparation for the next Difficulty element. These steps must be performed according to the music (character, tempo, rhythm and accent).

The value of each Dance Step Series (S) is 0.40

A minimum of one Fundamental Apparatus Technical element must be performed during these dance steps. Also small throws if they support the idea or increase the amplitude and variety of movement. They can be medium or large throws.

Dance steps in Groups (UKR)

How to create these combinations?

They are logically and smoothly connected without unnecessary stops or prolonged preparatory movements, with variety of speed, directions and levels. They are not simple movements across the floor. They are created with different rhythmical patterns with the apparatus in motion during the entire combination (different planes /axis,
directions and levels).

When are not valid?

  • If they are performed less than 10 seconds.
  • When there is no relation between the tempo, rhythm, character and accents of the music and the body/apparatus movements.
  • Without a minimum 2 different varieties of movement (if 2 out of the 4 listed below do not change during
  • When there is missing minimum one fundamental apparatus technical element during (S)
  • When DB values more than 0.10 or Illusions
  • Major alteration of the basic technique of the apparatus handling
  • With pre-acrobatic element(s)
  • Loss of balance during steps with support on one or both hands or on the apparatus.
  • Total loss of balance with fall of the gymnast, performing steps

When is it not possible to perform?

All these kind of movements must be performed completely on the floor. They could not be performed during (R), pre-acrobatic elements, difficulty of body when the value is more than 0.10 or Illusions.  Difficulty of apparatus during S is not allowed.

Code of Points: Generalities in Rotations

viktoriamazur

Viktoriia Mazur (UKR)

A rotation is the action of rotating about an axis or centre. In Rhythmic Gymnastics there are 2 types of Rotations:

1. Rotations on the foot: relevé (Pivot) or flat foot
2. Rotations on other parts of the body

In adition, all the rotation difficulties must have the following characteristics:

  •  Minimum basic rotation of 360 degrees with a fixed and well-defined shape
(some could be 180 degrees). A well-defined shape means that the correct shape taken by the gymnast is held fixed during a minimum basic rotation; slight deviations in the shape.

Rotation will be evaluated according to the number of rotations performed. In case of an interruption, like a hop, only the value of the rotations already performed prior to the interruption will be valid.
They also must be coordinated with a minimum of one Fundamental Apparatus Technical element, specific to each apparatus and/ or an element from the Non-Fundamental Apparatus Technical groups in any part of the Rotation to be valid.

EKATERINA SELEZNEVA

Ekaterina Selezneva (RUS)

In the series of identical Pivots (with two or more), each Pivot is performed one after the other without interruption and with heel support. Each Pivot in the series counts as one Difficulty. Each Pivot is evaluated separately (except for the combination of identical “Fouettés,” which counts as one Difficulty).
Different Rotations are Rotations with a different shape regardless of the number of rotations (valid also for “Fouettés” pivots).

The support leg whether stretched or bent does not change the value of the Difficulty, but the shape must be achieved before the end of the minimum basic rotation. In all Rotation Difficulties with ring, or back bend of the trunk, the head must be close to some part
of the leg (closed position, touching required).

Pivots with change of shape

  • Counts as 1 Difficulty
  • Each shape performed on relevé
  • Each shape included in the Pivot must have a minimum basic rotation.
  • Passing from one shape to another must be performed without heel support and as directly as possible
  • With a minimum of 1 Fundamental Technical element specific to each apparatus and/or an element from the Non-Fundamental apparatus groups during any component of Pivot Difficulty

VLADA NIKOLCHENKO 2

Vlada Nikolchenko (UKR)

Fouetté

  • Counts as 1 Difficulty
  • Two or more identical or different shapes connected with heel support
  • Various shapes may be performed:
    a) isolated
    b) combined (consecutively or alternating) within the same “Fouetté” but none of those shapes may be repeated in another Fouetté Rotation.
  • During every two “Fouettés,” one different Fundamental technical element or Non-Fundamentalapparatus element is required.

Illusion

  • Counts as one Difficulty
  • For 2 or more identical shapes connected with or without heel support: +0.10 for each additional rotation above the base 360 degrees
  • During every two Illusions, one different Fundamental technical element or Non-Fundamental apparatus element is required.
