Just a few weeks before Tokyo Olympic Games announced her retirement.

I started doing rhythmic gymnastics when I was only four years old. I was a gymnast for twenty years. And now, the day has come: I am free. I don’t have to go to the gym for trainings.

Katsiaryna Halkina underwent ankle surgery

The winner of bronze medal at European Championships 2018, underwent surgery in Germany last week. Dr. Teßmann is Head of Trauma Surgery and Arthroscopic Surgery / Sports Traumatology at the Helios Clinic in Berlin and is responsible of Halkina’s surgery. “Successful treatment is always my goal. A quick and correct diagnosis is important. It is important to consider individually whether an operation is necessary or whether conservative treatment is sufficient “, said the Doctor.

Katsiaryna Halkina was suffering from ankle pain since last year and an operation was needed to be pain-free. Now, she needs three weeks of physical therapy. She could be able to train again full load in two or three months.

The main goal for her to achieve is to compete again at Olympic Games, this time in Tokyo as it was planned. By the moment, Katsiaryna Halkina will not compete at European Championships, that will be held in Kiev at the end of November

Ekaterina Galkina’s Online Masterclass

Olympian and International Master of Sports in Rhythmic Gymnastics, Ekaterina Galkina from Belarus will impart an Online Masterclass. “MyRhythmic” and Club Gimnasia Rítmica Castrillón (Asturias, Spain) hold this exclusive event.

Ekaterina Galkina is the 2018 European bronze medalist. This probably was the best, most consistent competition of her life. Hitting one routine after the other she came close to the silver medal but had to settle for bronze medal in the all-around.

She won gold in hoop at the 2012 Pesaro Junior World Cup. At European Junior Championships in 2012, she and Team Belarus won the Team silver medal, she won silver in ribbon and ball final. Halkina then won the all around gold medal in the junior division at the 2012 Aeon Cup in Japan.

She also finished 6th in the all-around final at Rio 2016 Olympic Games. In September 2019 at the World Championships Baku, Halkina, along with Alina Harnasko and Anastasiya Salos won team Bronze.

At age 14 she had heart surgery after it became clear she would pursue a career as an athlete. “My operation was done so that I could continue competing in high level sports. Nothing terrible had happened. I had a condition that closes the valve of the heart. If the problem was left as it was, I would not be able to withstand heavy loads. I missed a year in recovery, then got back in shape.” (Source: FIG)
